I was very flattered when I was approached by Len Henry of Fashcam to design a logo for the film RasTa – A Soul’s Journey. Unlike branding for beer or chocolate bars (both of which I have done to death by the way), RasTa would require a considerable amount of thought and respect.
Donisha Prendergast, Granddaughter of Bob Marley has made it her own personal quest to explore Rastafari culture around the globe. This documentary has taken her to Ethiopia, Jamaica, Canada, South Africa, The UK, Isreal and beyond. It is quite simply a love letter to the religion, the people and the way of life that has inspired a generation.
Who would not jump at the chance to get involved?
The logo called for a regal flavour with an international undertone. We went through countless revisions, colour, typographic and design. Corwin Hall stepped in for additional creative support to steer it where it needed to go. His experience building his own brand Yaudie was just what we needed. At the end of it we ended up with a logo that we were proud of. The reaction form those involved with the project have been overwhelmingly positive. It seems as though the extra effort was worth it:
The vision for the logo for RasTa had to be one where the film, story and culture appeared available to and welcoming of everyone. It needed to be brighter, more illuminated and original than any of the plethora of images currently out there. I remember, after much animated discourse between, Adam, Corwin Hall (Yaudie) and myself, Jarvis had a eureka. He said “I got it!” Hall and I decided to leave him to create. And that he did – an image that has been praised by real Rastas, academics and Bob fans alike – “It’s brilliant!” – Len Henry

I’m proud of this logo for many reasons. I hope you dig it. – Adam.
