Ahmed Alrefaie is a 22 year old student from the Middle East with a great deal of patience. Each of his incredibly detailed pieces take about a month and are produced in Adobe CS3 the old fashioned way – clicking one point at a time using the pen tool. 
He’s got a great handle of color using several gradient mesh techniques. You can see strong examples of this in his skin tones and fabric textures. This example really impressed us:
