27-year-old artist Evgeny Kiselev lives and works in the northern seaport city. His work is unique. It has the complexity of machinery, yet it feels alive. It also reminded us of traditional Canadian first nations art. Regardless, there’s something special about this style.
Evgeny’s works were published in IDN (Hong Kong), ROJO (Spain), Grafik magazine (U.K.), Beautiful Decay (U.S.A.),
E-tapes (France), Chewonthis magazine (U.S.A.), I.O. Magazine (Germany), X-Funs (Taiwan),
New web pick, Artzmania e-zine, Sherbert magazine (U.S.A.), X-CUP (Taiwan), Semi Permanent books 05-07 etc.
“The diverse work of Evgeny Kiselev oscillates between the rigors of symmetry and prolific excess.
Several compositions begin with vivid tiled patterns that are mirrored again and again until they can no longer
be contained and are forced to push beyond the confines of their logic. Others, emerge from a single outline
that manifests the controlled lawlessness of the work. Each piece achieves a complexity of color and layer
that continues to build infinitely into the space of the page creating a warping spatial depth”.
