Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada –
Teaming up to change the way we interact with vectors and the talented people who create them
A Change of pace
Today was no ordinary day. Today was special for a couple of reasons. The first, I got to crawl out of my little office hurricane and hit the road. Something that I have been wanting to do for a long time. So, I traded downtown grid lock for the open road of Southern Ontario. What a day for a road trip. Vineyards as far as the eye could see and beautiful lake Ontario spilling in under bridges and through canals. A stunning drive. I’m talking about Niagara, Ontario. The home of some excellent, award-winning wine and (as I learned today) a hidden wealth of talent, craftsmanship and good taste. I felt as though I had discovered something. This is a beautiful part of Ontario that I am glad I had a chance to experience.
Trading in “Virtual Reality” for a little “Reality”
The second reason for me coming to this place was to meet a team. Not over the phone, or Skype or in a volley of emails. But Old school. In person. You know, the way the pioneers used to do it.
I excepted an invitation to see things for myself. I got a chance to shake a few hands today with Krystle, Dave and Collin from the Niagara College Research & Innovation Department. And I’m glad I did. A great group.
Their team has accepted a challenge to solve a particular puzzle for Vectorvault. And together, we placed the pieces on the chess board. Today was special. Today was important…
An inspiring environment
On this beautiful sunny day, I walked past a Culinary Centre, with a greenhouse where tomorrow’s chefs grow fresh produce for their own bench mark restaurant.
In the background…is that a….vineyard? Oh, my goodness, they teach the art of wine making and beer brewing here too. Believe me, if there was a place like this around back in my day – art school would have taken second place. This campus is beautiful and should be explored.
Check this: They have a spa on campus with prices you won’t even believe. I’m not kidding. No wonder everyone here looks like a movie star. Good Wine, Heathy Food, $21 facials – I wanna enrol here like Rodney Dangerfield and start a whole new career. Very impressed.
Gearing up for the next round
My visit to Research & Innovation, gave me a feeling of optimism. It was great to have a brainstorm with more than my reflection for a change. And even though, my passion probably dominated the conversation (as usual), I could tell we were all on the same page.
This is the beginning
Over the coming months, you’ll be seeing the results of our teamwork as key features begin to come online. We hope you watch the process unfold and keep your eyes on Niagara College. I’m not an easy guy to impress. These cats blew me away.
Thanks
A special thanks to Vanessa W., Natalee T., Mark R., Autumn M., Jeff N., the Colleges Ontario Network for Industry Innovation (CONII), and the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) for making this introduction possible. And a special thanks to Niagara College and it’s Research & Innovation team for accepting my challenge to do nothing short of change the future.
I LOVE NIAGARA, ONTARIO!
